People often ask me, "What is the best cap construction?" The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer - everyone has different needs and personal preferences. That’s why I’ve created this comparison to help guide you in finding the best option for you.
All wigs from Hair by V are completely glueless, meaning no adhesives are needed for a secure fit.
While some prefer using tapes, glues, or hairsprays, these can weaken or damage the lace over time, which is why I recommend avoiding them. A glueless fit also means less frequent washing, helping to extend the lifespan of your wig.
All Hair by V wigs:
-
Glueless wear: No need for adhesives, but you can use glue or tape at the front if desired.
-
Multidirectional parting: Change the parting anytime for versatile styling.
-
Suitable for all wearers: Designed for both complete hair loss and those with bio hair underneath.
For added security and comfort, customizations such as silicone lining, clips, and a removable adjustable band at the back are offered. These can be added to any wig cap construction - just let me know your preference when placing your order.
lace top wig
A lace top wig features a lace material at the top, where the hair is individually knotted to create a natural scalp-like appearance.
Cap Construction:
-
The top area of the wig is made from lace.
-
Hair is individually knotted onto the lace, allowing for multi-directional parting.
-
The back of the cap can be either wefted, hand-tied, or a mix of both (partial handtied back top).
Impact on Wear & Look:
-
The lace allows scalp visibility, creating an ultra-realistic look.
-
Very lightweight and breathable, making it great for hot weather.
-
More delicate - lace can tear if handled roughly.
✅ Pros:
-
Very natural - looking scalp, especially when knots are light.
-
Lightweight and breathable, making it comfortable for long wear.
-
Hair can be styled in multiple directions for versatility, very natural hair movement.
❌ Cons:
-
Requires careful handling, as lace is delicate and prone to tearing.
-
Might need knot concealing for the most realistic look.
-
Can be less durable over time compared to silk tops.
cozy cap
Cozy cap means: medical cap, as in no clips & combs but silicon lining.
Silicon lining can be added to any wig cap construction.
seamless silk top lace front wig
This wig has a silk top with an underlying lace front. The silk top hides the knots completely, mimicking the scalp, while the lace front provides a natural hairline.
Cap Construction:
-
Silk top section: A multi-layered base where the knots are hidden beneath a layer of silk fabric. This creates a "knotless" scalp effect.
-
Lace front section: A lace material at the front hairline, allowing for a natural-looking hairline and easy blending with skin.
-
Back of the cap: Can be wefted or hand-tied.
Impact on Wear & Look:
-
The silk top gives the most natural scalp illusion because knots are completely hidden.
-
Lace front ensures a natural transition at the hairline.
-
The multi-layered silk top is less breathable than lace top wigs.
-
Can be slightly thicker on top, making it slightly warmer than lace top wigs.
✅ Pros:
-
Most realistic scalp appearance - knots are fully concealed by the silk layer.
-
No need for hiding knots, making it lower maintenance.
-
Natural lace front allows for a seamless hairline.
-
More durable than a lace top.
❌ Cons:
-
Less breathable than a lace top because of the silk layer.
-
Slightly thicker than lace-only tops, which might feel less lightweight.
-
Does not offer the natural flow & hair movement a lace top wig offers, tends to lay more flat.
ultra natural hairline collection
The same pros & cons of the lace top wig above.
This lace top wig design has a extra thin / ultra natural pre-plucked hairline and bleached knots. Extremely lightweight hairline around the face. V-shaped eartabs that sit snug against your head, adjustable straps with silicone loops.
It resembles a medical cap because of the silicone strips placed at the back which is perfect for people with medical hair loss conditions but also great for people with hair or very little hair. All wigs in this collection have adjustable extra elastic bands. Secure the wig with an elastic band and enjoy a comfortable, glueless application even with complete hair loss. You can easily remove or add back the elastic band as/if needed.
Hand-Tied Back vs. Wefted Back
A hand-tied back can be added to a lace top wig & a seamless silk top lace front wig.
It means the hair is individually knotted into a soft, flexible base instead of being sewn in machine-made wefts.
Hand-Tied Back Cap Construction:
-
The entire back portion of the cap is made of soft mesh material, and each strand of hair is hand-knotted into the cap instead of being sewn into wefts.
-
The ear tabs and nape area often include a small amount of elastic material for a secure fit.
Impact on Wear & Look:
-
Lighter and more flexible than wefted caps. The wig moves naturally, as each hair is individually knotted.
-
Ideal for people with sensitive scalps, as there are no thick wefts pressing against the head.
-
Looks more natural in updos or ponytails, as there are no visible wefts or tracks.
-
More delicate—excessive brushing or pulling may lead to shedding.
✅ Pros:
-
More natural movement, as hair is not restricted by wefts.
-
Lighter and softer, making it more comfortable, especially for sensitive scalps.
-
No wefts means no visible tracks, even in high ponytails.
❌ Cons:
-
More delicate and prone to shedding if not handled properly.
-
Typically more expensive than wefted constructions.
Wefted Back Cap Construction:
-
The back of the wig is made of rows of machine-sewn wefts, stitched into a stretch cap base.
-
Often includes an elastic or adjustable strap at the nape for a secure fit.
Impact on Wear & Look:
-
More durable and long-lasting, as wefts are securely sewn in.
-
Slightly more structured and voluminous because wefts add density at the base.
-
Typically more affordable than hand-tied caps.
-
May feel warmer and less flexible, as the wefts limit natural hair movement.
✅ Pros:
-
More durable and long-lasting compared to a hand-tied cap.
-
Provides more volume and fullness at the base.
-
Generally more affordable.
❌ Cons:
-
Can feel heavier or warmer due to the wefting.
-
May have visible tracks if not carefully styled.
